Podcasters often ask which platform deserves the marketing budget. The honest answer depends on whether you care more about category charts, listening volume, or both.
Apple Podcasts: ranking prestige
Apple’s category charts are still a status signal for many sponsors, agents, and expert audiences. If your pitch deck needs “Top 20 in Business on Apple Podcasts,” Apple-focused ranking work belongs in the plan.
Spotify: listening behavior
Spotify rewards shows that fit listening habits inside its ecosystem. Growth here often shows up as stronger completion and discoverability among active Spotify users — valuable for download totals and habit-based audiences.
When to go dual-platform
Most established shows eventually need both: Apple for chart narrative, Spotify for listening scale. A 30-day dual-platform campaign is the standard structure when you do not want to choose only one.
- New show, chart story matters → weight Apple first
- Download volume for sponsors → include Spotify
- Competitive category → longer timeline + dual signals
Practical rule
Do not split effort evenly by default. Choose a primary platform for 15 days, then expand. Or run a designed dual campaign with weekly checks — not random posts on every network.
